The Truth About VOCs and Spray Foam Insulation: Myths vs. Facts
There’s a lot of misinformation about spray foam insulation, especially regarding Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and emissions. Let’s clear up some common myths:
• Myth #1: All spray foam insulation releases harmful chemicals into the air. Fact: Not all spray foam is created equal. Xcelus spray foam, which we use at MV Insulation Solutions, has the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) possible and meets the strictest environmental standards (Xcelus, 2024).
• Myth #2: Spray foam insulation is bad for indoor air quality. Fact: High-quality spray foam, once fully cured, does not emit harmful VOCs. It actually helps improve indoor air quality by sealing gaps that allow pollutants, allergens, and moisture to enter (EPA, 2023).
• Myth #3: Traditional insulation is always safer than spray foam. Fact: Many traditional insulation materials contain formaldehyde and fiberglass particles, which can affect air quality. Xcelus spray foam is low-VOC and free of harmful additives (SPFA, 2024).
If you have concerns about insulation and air quality, we’re happy to discuss the best options for your project at MV Insulation Solutions.
